Aftercare Information - Volumising Treatments

The following is some important information about what to expect in the first 2-4 weeks after some volumising treatments at Skin Essentials.

Please read it carefully so you can understand what is common, and when to worry.

We have written this

  • to normalise some of the common side effects

  • to encourage you to reach out for a review appointment if you have concerns outside of these.

Immediately post treatment

After the initial excitement fades, we find our patients appreciate some TLC in the coming days to weeks of what to expect post treatment.

Specifically?

  • bruising (they may be tiny, pinpricks or bigger; flat or pea sized lumps depending on where and how thin/thick the skin here is!) will take ~ 2- 4 weeks to settle

  • lumps and bumps especially in certain lighting (bathroom mirrors, car selfies)

  • unevenness (especially around temples, chins, and lips, but anywhere, really!)

  • swelling that will settle in coming days to weeks

  • veins in the face appearing to bulge and be more prominent (especially if your skin is thin) in areas like the temples (days to weeks)

  • some puffiness around the eyes that will settle

What should you do?

DO:

  • ice the area often ~ 15 minutes every hour the first day

  • take panadol if you have any discomfort for the first 1-2 days

  • do wear makeup from the next day if needed or to conceal any bruising

  • do use creams designed to heal bruising faster such as arnica, or hirudoid – talk to us in clinic if you are a bruiser

  • do reach out to request a review appointment if you have significant pain, or concerns about bruising in the first 48 hours post treatment.

DO NOT:

  • panic; bruising and lumps and bumps, unevenness are almost guaranteed and will settle by the time we see you in ~ 4 weeks

  • do NOT massage any lumps or bumps; most swelling should settle within 72 hours post treatment

When should you request a review appointment?

  • within the first 24 hours if pain worsening, one sided or doesn’t settle with panadol.

  • one side significantly more painful or white compared to the other

  • any other concerns you are unsure about.

  • within the first 72 hours if you’re unsure or need reassurance.

After this, it’s about patience and waiting till your review appointment but if any doubts, please reach out to ask if you need a review appointment so we can assess you in person. Please do not selfies as these are unreliable.
