Abnormal Pigmentation

Abnormal pigmentation is one of the commonest problems that we see presenting to us at Skin Essentials. It is often hormonal, related to medication, pregnancy and related changes, or due to excessive sun exposure and resulting damage.

Rarely it may be related to autoimmune disease such as vitiligo and need referral.

Once established, it can be very hard to clear completely and needs lifelong care and treatment to prevent recurrence as the smallest risk can cause relapse.

At Skin Essentials, we begin with an initial consultation to explore your concerns and assess for the likelihood of what your pigmentation concern is due to.

Not all pigmentation is melasma, for example.

We then devise a plan to work with you, your expectations, willingness to commit and budget.

As with all skin conditions, treatments usually take time (months) , and ongoing willingness for longterm lifestyle changes so it is important to have that initial consultation upfront so you can make an informed decision.

For most people with pigmentation issues, it is not be possible to reverse the damage completely, and we will discuss this with you before undertaking any treatment.

If your particular concern is beyond our available services, we can refer you to a colleague who may be able to help instead.

Lasers are rarely the first choice for treatment of pigmentation disorders, and considered for residual pigmentation.
