Proactive Ageing

Our signature approach to the ageing face: Dr Joshi’s Proactive Ageing

At Skin Essentials we recognise that as we age, multiple processes are occurring all at once that are causing the changes you see in the mirror that bother you.

These changes affect all layers of the face from the skin to the fat pads to muscles and ligaments and the bone that make up our general appearance.

It makes sense therefore that treating just one or two of these layers or even areas, will not be enough to provide a cohesive and seamless result that will last.

Proactive Ageing

As a doctor with both a decade of surgical training and further 14 years of training as a specialist GP with training in both psychology, dermatology and skin cancer medicine and surgery, Dr Joshi devised her trademarked triad that addresses all of these issues except one: significant enough skin laxity and sagging that surgery may be the best or only option, for which we recommend you seek a surgical opinion.

At present there is NO non surgical or minimally invasive surgical treatment that comes even close to what surgery can achieve if sagging and laxity is your biggest or main concern.

For most patients by this time, they need extensive work to restore their ageing skin and face and then to maintain the results, even if they opt to have surgery.

Our signature FFA:

Skin

Including texture, pigment changes due to cumulative sundamage and collagen induction 3 and then banking it to slow down the rate of skin laxity. Additionally if suitable, we also discuss adjunctive therapies such as menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) or refer you to someone with a special interest in this.

Volume Loss

The unavoidable contributor to ageing, global volume loss (ie over the entire face) is one of the biggest contributors to the ageing process in women and is accelerated leading into menopause, during the first 5 years of menopause and beyond.

Muscle Tension Changes

Dr Joshi takes the approach that erasing all lines and wrinkles & freezing faces is not the desired endpoint of treatment done well, but rather moderating their impact on the skin they pull on.

If you are a suitable candidate for Dr Joshi’s Proactive Ageing, which takes a Full Face Aesthetics (FFA) approach, we aim to address the rest of your concerns that only surgery cannot:

Who is Proactive Ageing for?

While not specifically limited to these groups, our commonest patients who see success in Proactive Ageing are commonly:

  • Women ages 35-55
  • Who want to age proactively without looking “done” or being “frozen”
  • Who want a done-for-you plan devised in consultation with you with Dr Joshi at the initial consultation
  • Who have a proven record for discipline and commitment to projects that are important to them
  • Who are willing and ready to make it work no matter what on the journey to their goals
  • Who are realistic and understand that 100% improvement is not possible even with surgery and we are aiming for 60-80% improvement which we then maintain
  • Who are looking for a single clinic and doctor to help them map their journey in the initial phase and then through maintenance of results for years to come
