Medical Aesthetics

What does our Medical Aesthetics appointment cover?

Medical aesthetics in Australia and most of the world is currently a largely unregulated or minimally regulated medical speciality.

What does this mean for you, the patient?

In Australia at present regulations are “strict” enough that only a minimally qualified healthcare professional ie an AHPRA registered doctor, nurse or dentist, can work in medical aesthetics. And yet…it is lax enough that there is no formal nor mandatory pathway to any training beyond the medical, nursing or dental degree.

There are many ways you may choose to decide which category of clinician you will see as a patient.

One of the commonest ways people choose is based on price often because these medical services are advertised as being no different to shopping at Coles vs Aldi or for other retail services such as hair and nails.

Other ways may be based on word of mouth or referral by a trusted family member or friend.

Many of us also choose someone on the basis of third party review websites such as Google.

Most of us don’t  choose on the basis of qualification beyond the minimum nor stop to consider how much experience they’ve had in the required speciality especially if something goes wrong.

After all, it is your face when it comes to medical aesthetics with rare but real risk even in experienced hands but because it’s sold as “just beauty” most of us don’t stop to think of this until something goes wrong, when it may be too late.

At Skin Essentials, we are a medical clinic headed by a medical doctor with over 2 decades of experience across a surgical speciality, a non procedural speciality and additional training in mental health spanning over a decade.

We make no bones about how we work; as a medical clinic where you are patients, not clients, and we work together to address your concerns and come up with solutions so you can decide if you’ll sign up.

At Skin Essentials all new and returning medical aesthetics patients begin with a comprehensive initial consultation.

This appointment is best for you if:

  • You are considering medical aesthetics but have no idea where to start & seeking some guidance
  • You are looking for treatment that is for a single concern eg treatment of lines and wrinkles
  • You are looking for a doctor you can trust to guide you and treat you today and for years to come
  • You have had work elsewhere you are unhappy with and seeking a second opinion
  • You are interested in skin therapies and if they might help you but need guidance

If any of these apply to you please use the booking link to apply for an appointment here. We look forward to helping you in clinic!
