Aftercare Information - Biostimulatory Treatments

This is a generic information document for patients undergoing treatment in clinic with one of the biostimulatory treatments available.

We will provide you with specific information at your appointment, but here is a general guide ahead of time so you can best prepare.

In the first days post treatment.

Here are some important aftercare instructions to follow in coming days to weeks.

Summary version

  • icing is recommended for the first 24 hours or so for pain relief

  • if you need, some paracetamol and/or ibuprofen for the first 1-2 days may also help

  • it’s ok and recommended, even, to massage the areas treated if needed; you won’t do any harm by doing this

  • remember – biostimulators  are like fertiliser for your skin; effects are slow and gradual, over weeks to months and not immediately visible.

Now for detailed information:

  1. Application of an ice pack or cold compress to the injection area may help reduce swelling. If swelling or redness persists after 48- 72 hours, please contact the clinic for advice and a review appointment. It is normal to feel a “firmness” over the treated area for the first few days after treatment. Over time, this will soften, leaving you with a natural looking result.

  1. There is minimal downtime with most biostimulatory treatments whether with devices or injectables. Please be guided by your doctor at your appointment.

  1. Many patients immediately return to their normal routine / activities. Makeup may be applied within 24 hours after treatment if no complications are present, and using gentle application.

  2. The treated area may be gently washed a few hours after treatment. Avoid aggressive scrubbing or rubbing.

  3. Sunbathing or excessive UV exposure should be avoided until any redness or swelling has subsided.

Please report any worsening, persistent symptoms or side effects beyond 2-3 days to the clinic for further advice and potentially a review. Please do not send photos unless asked to.
