So as of February this year there is a new player in the field of cosmetic injectables, promising permanent chin fat reduction.
Due to TGA restrictions I am not allowed to name it here, but many of us have seen it on the news – Channel 9, Channel 7 and others, under headings such as “Chin Fat dissolving drug”.
So what is it exactly?
B****** is an injectable that dissolves fat underneath the chin permanently, a common area many people seek treatment for.
It is approved for moderate to severe fat under the chin only at this stage. Reduction is permanent.
It works by using a chemical found naturally in our bodies, which destroys fat cells. As such, most people have permanent reduction in their chin fat with treatments.
Each treatment is 2 vials of the product; most people need 2-4 treatments, six weeks apart, to achieve results that are clearly visible. Most people won’t see much in the way of results after a single treatment and be disappointed and angry; consequently the current recommendations are to prepare patients for at least 2 treatments upfront, 6 weeks apart.
The number of treatments each person will ultimately need will depend on the amount of chin fat, the area, the person’s expectations as well as budget and individual factors such as variable physiology and metabolism. Ie each person will react to the treatment in a way that is unique to them and it is not possible to predict how well you’ll react till you have the first treatment.
The first time you try it, plan to wear a scarf around your neck or even have a few days off . Don’t plan it less than 2 weeks before a big event such as parties and weddings. You can expect some mild discomfort for the first couple of hours and the chin area will almost certainly swell (which is a good thing) but shouldn’t stop you from getting on with normal life. In some people, the double chin may seem to worsen after the first treatment and only improve after the second so be prepared for this.
Unlike anti-wrinkle treatments and fillers, the treatment is actively destroying fat cells in your chin- this creates inflammation, temporary swelling. This swelling should not be as pronounced with subsequent treatments.
At present, 2 vials of the product are considered the minimum volume for 1 treatment, RRP 1250.
Many injectors charge for 2 treatments upfront ie RRP2500 in anticipation of a sub-optimal result after the first that may result in unhappy patients despite adequate consent.
Second treatment is planned usually 6 weeks after the first, but not within 2 weeks of any major events such as weddings and other celebrations.
If a 3rd or 4th treatment is needed, or desired I usually discount those treatments to $1000 for the 2 vials.
As there is currently only one company currently producing this drug, they can set the price without much competition. Currently, the RRP for the initial treatment is $1250 for 2 vials or $2500 for 4. If subsequent treatments are still needed, you’ll pay $1000 per treatment thereafter if the first two were done with us.
As with any medical procedure dealing with real people, results may vary from person to person.
The examples here are varied, some great, others average. At the end of the day, you won’t know your response till you try it.

Per NSW government regulations, only double vaccinated patients will be served when we reopen and we will be checking vaccination certificates for all patients upon booking. This requirement may change as of December 1st, and we will advise you accordingly.
Please email us (contact@skinessentials.com.au) or text us (0413174654) your vaccination certificate as soon after booking as you can. We will not be able to see anyone for treatments or confirm appointments without this.
